Meet Rev. Dr. Hye-Eun Chon
Hye-Eun grew up in a family that both her father and grandfather are Methodist pastors. Her family background naturally lead her to the church and theological education and formed within her a sense of theological vocation, which brought her to where she is today.
Her Christian school education began at Ewha Girls' Foreign Language High School in Seoul, a prestigious private school. In Seoul, she received a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Church Music degrees (major: organ) at Anglican Church University. She has studied a Master of Sacred Music at Boston University and received a Master of Music degree at Westminster Choir College in Princeton; received a Master of Theology degree at Methodist Theological University in Seoul. She studied under Dr. Ron Anderson at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary with full PhD scholarship and graduated on May 8, 2026.
Since majoring in organ (liturgical, church and sacred music) in Seoul, Boston, Princeton and Evanston as well as theology, she has worked as a pipe-organist or music director at church and school for a long time. Her various experiences related to worship, as well as serving as organist will be a great help to her in her ministry as a UMC pastor..
Throughout her life and particularly in her life as a pastor, she has felt God's call. She believes that her life as a pastor has been, and continues to be, a life in which the transcendent God leads and guides her - for more than any finite human being could ever plan or conceive. When she reflects upon past events, she came to realize that all those experiences were, in fact, the very best gifts which God could have bestowed upon her; for this, she feels a profound sense of gratitude. Ultimately, she came to recognize and confess that she is living her entire life by fully entrusting herself to God and depends completely on God. Giving thanks for the love and grace God has given her and confessing that even her breathing and life up until now has been due to God's love and grace, she sincerely hopes and looks forward to using her gifts and graces which God gives her to share God's love with others in her daily life and to make a valuable contribution to the UMC. As Paul confessed: "By the grace of God, I am what I am.." She prays with gratitude, thankful that - through God's perfect guidance - God has brought me this far. "Lord! Please use me as Your instrument."
